Our Route - The Adventure Starts 25th March 2010
I suppose an important thing about organising an adventure such as this is the planning that goes into it before we leave, such as organising supplies, official paperwork and the injections against things like Yellow Fever. For the journey itself we believe flexibility is king. An important asset for information is speaking with people who have journeyed through the Sahara to Timbuktu before, speaking to people en route or at border crossings.
We align this with ongoing information from other sources such as the Foreign Commonwealth Office, which for example, currently warns of possible kidnappings (North of the Niger River), help in locations of landmines and generally where things may be starting to 'kick off!'
For these reasons planning a rigid timetable for the journey itself can prove detrimental. For example to cross an African border could take 20 minutes, or it may take a day, or they may not let you across at all! It's all part of the experience.
We plan to update our progress through this site so that you can follow how we are doing, where we are and show some of the challenges that we will have had to overcome.
